Evaluators and NEW Evaluation Software
As in past years, Serious Academy of Hockey will be doing our zone evaluations. These results are then used to build the draft pools. There will be space blocked off at the arena for evaluators. Please leave them plenty of room to be able to do their job.

One new element to our evaluations this year is the use of player evaluation software SkillShark (https://skillshark.com/). This evaluation software is used by sport governing bodies across the globe, including the CFL, MLS, NCAA schools and MLB development programs. It will help ensure more accurate results, and provide increasingly transparent feedback for coordinators, coaches and families.

U7 Evaluation Process
The three skates for U7 age players are more development-oriented rather than ranked evaluation. As this age group is not tiered, there are no formal evaluations done.  Rather evaluators are simply looking for a few small indicators of skating ability to ensure that teams are balanced.

U9 and U11 PreSkates and Evaluations Process
U9 (2014-2015) and U11 (2012-2013) age players are offered four pre skates in advance of evaluations. These skates are not mandatory, and they are not evaluated. This is simply a chance to get on the ice and get their feet going.  A missed pre-skate will have zero impact on evaluations or placement.  For the preskates, players should wear their OWN jerseys as they will not be provided for these skates. We also hope to use this preskate time to run the players through some of the drills they will be doing during their evaluations.

When evaluations begin, these age groups will do a combination of skills skates and scrimmages. The first skate will be assigned either randomly or by last name. After the first skate, groups will be shuffled in order to provide the evaluators with several opportunities to observe players in multiple circumstances and skill groupings.

U13 Evaluation Process
These age groups will do a skills skate combined with the Aces zone (our Hybrid partner). After the skills skate, there is an A cohort and a B/C cohort determined for scrimmage play (Players who have already declared for B/C tiers will be placed in B/C scrimmages regardless of skills score).

U15 Evaluation Process
With the introduction of citywide U15A this year, it will be a bit of learning as we go regarding evaluations. We will pass on additional information as we receive it.  B/C scrimmages will commence one AA and A are complete.

U18 Evaluation Process
These age groups will do scrimmages for placement. (Players who have already declared for B/C tiers will be placed in B/C scrimmages regardless of skills score).
